Journeys and Inspirations
This story was written when I was eight or nine years old. I've always been an adventurous, enterprising individual, scratching off of my bucket list at a young age such pesky things as launching torpedoes and climbing Mt. Everest. Trophies in New York elementary schools are not given out lightly.
Travel
I have been so lucky in that I've had multiple opportunities to study abroad, work abroad, volunteer abroad, live abroad, and travel the world. Travel has always been a way for me to slow down and see the world as it is--even as I imagine the world as it could be.
When I read from old stories or passages in my novels, or when I leaf through my sketchbooks and notebooks and photos, I'm taken back to the moment I had that particular idea or saw that particular tableau, and my characters and settings and plots become a way for me to process my experiences. I leave a piece of my heart in each place I visit, and I take with me a piece of each place when I go. Wander through all my travels. |
